What are the different test types?
We offer COVID-19 testing via RT-PCR, rapid antigen, and rapid antibody. All three test types are offered at the USA Hockey Arena location in Plymouth, MI and are also offered through our "we come to you" service at your home or office. We offer a 4th test, the rapid NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test) at the Hockey Arena location; however, this test is not covered by insurance. The self-pay cost is $150. Currently, only PCR-based testing is available at our pharmacy collection sites. We also offer a Covid-19 neutralizing antibody test. Please call us for more information about scheduling this specific test.
-
What is a PCR-based test?
PCR, also known as RT-PCR, is the most sensitive and accurate test, utilizing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction to detect the nucleic acids of the virus which will determine whether a patient is currently infected. Results are available in under 24 hours.
-
What is a rapid antigen test?
Rapid antigen detects a protein on the virus and determines if a patient is currently contagious and actively shedding the virus. The test is less sensitive than PCR and not as accurate.
-
What is a rapid antibody test?
Rapid antibody tests for two different COVID-related antibodies in the blood and determines whether a patient has antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, either from vaccination or prior/current infection.
-
What is a rapid nucleic acid amplification (NAAT) test?
Our rapid nucleic acid amplification test is similar to the PCR test in that it amplifies the nucleic acids of the virus in order to detect it, however it does not use polymerase chain reaction to amplify the nucleic acids, it uses an isothermal amplification method.
-
What is a neutralizing antibody test?
Neutralizing antibody test measures the actual amount of antibodies a patient has in their system, either from vaccination or prior/current infection. Turn around time is 24 hours. This test requires a blood draw. Please call customer service for more information about this test or to schedule.
-
Do your tests and result reports fulfill all of the requirements for international travel?
Yes, the information included in your report (your test type, dates of collection and reporting, CLIA ID, passport number if applicable, etc) fulfills all requirements for international travel.
Please note, certain destinations require a specific type of sample collection, i.e. a nasopharyngeal swab (NPS), and is the responsibility of the client to know what is required. Our typical method is an anterior nasal swab (ANS), which is widely accepted, but we can provide NPS when required.
-
What is the turnaround time? The RT-PCR turnaround time for results is 24 hours or less. The rapid antigen, rapid antibody, and rapid nucleic acids amplification (NAAT) tests are resulted in approximately 1 hour.
